In life and MMA, history seems to repeat itself, especially when Ronda Rousey has a hold of an arm in a cage. After nine years away from the UFC, Rousey returned to an MMA cage with a bang. The brainchild of Jake Paul and his MVP Promotions was a monster card full of MMA notables. Headlining the card was Rousey taking on another groundbreaking fighter from WMMA’s past, Gina Carano. This fight was billed as the fight that fans always wanted but never happened. Now with the massive subscribership of Netflix, this card was expected to break all kinds of records.

Saturday night, some of MMA’s most-watched fighters joined the MVP card and put on a show for the fans in the sold-out Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, CA. Rousey and Carano were the headliners, and as they walked into the arena, the crowd was roaring. Seeing Rousey pacing back and forth was enough to send any longtime fan right back to her heyday in 2014. Much like her long and successful UFC career, Rousey was able to grab a hold of Carano’s arm within the first twenty minutes and end her night early.

Same Old Rousey

During her amazing UFC career, Rousey was known for quick finishes, especially from an armbar. Loyal fans knew what to expect on Netflix on Saturday night, but it was special to see it come to life after so many years and on such a massive stage. Some fans may have been hoping for a longer brawl, but when asked about this after the fight, Rousey explained why she looked to end the night quickly.

“Hell no! My husband and my kids are watching me. I don’t wanna put them through anything they don’t have to,” she said. “I was hoping to come out as unscathed as possible. I didn’t really want to hurt her. Luckily it was just beautiful martial arts. That’s what I think it is. That is what that efficiency is, it’s an art.”

Although she looked like her old self, Rousey announced that she will walk away once again following this win. She went out on top, in her hometown, and can be happy with a historic career.
